Prototype Materials for Different Test Requirements

Material selection affects strength, flexibility, transparency, heat resistance, surface quality and cost. Final availability and suitability are confirmed after reviewing the drawing and application.

Material Group Common Options and Uses
3D Printing SLA standard resin, tough resin, clear resin and high-temperature resin for detailed visual models. SLS and MJF options include PA12 nylon, PA11, glass-filled nylon and TPU for durable functional prototypes and complex geometries.
Vacuum Casting Polyurethane resin, also called PU or urethane casting resin, can simulate rigid, flexible, clear or colored plastic parts. Options may include ABS-like, PP-like, PC-like, PMMA-like, TPE-like, TPR-like and rubber-like performance.
CNC Plastics ABS Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene, PC Polycarbonate, POM Acetal or Delrin, PMMA Acrylic, PA Nylon, PEEK, PTFE, PP Polypropylene, PE Polyethylene and other engineering plastics.
CNC Metals Aluminum alloys, stainless steel, carbon steel, tool steel, brass, copper, titanium and magnesium for accurate functional parts, fixtures, housings, brackets and mechanical components.
Soft Parts Flexible PU, TPU, TPE-like, TPR-like, rubber-like and silicone rubber options can support seals, grips, covers, overmold simulations and ergonomic prototypes. Confirm hardness, color and service environment before quotation.

Note: ABS-like, PP-like, PC-like, TPE-like and TPR-like vacuum casting materials simulate selected properties. They are not necessarily identical to injection-molded production plastics.

SLS and MJF Functional Prototypes

SLS Selective Laser Sintering and MJF Multi Jet Fusion are suitable for durable PA nylon parts, clips, housings, ducts, lattices and functional assemblies. Because no support structures are required, these processes can produce complex internal features and nested geometries efficiently.

SLA Appearance Models

SLA Stereolithography is ideal for fine details, smooth surfaces, clear models, presentation samples and painted appearance verification. It is often selected when visual quality and dimensional detail are more important than long-term production material performance.

CNC Machining and Vacuum Casting

CNC machining uses real engineering plastics and metals for accurate functional prototypes, threads, mating features and mechanical testing. It is suitable when material behavior or tighter critical dimensions matter.

Vacuum casting with silicone molds, also called urethane casting or silicone mold casting, supports consistent low-volume parts in varied colors, transparency and hardness. It is useful for design verification, customer samples and bridge quantities before injection molding.

What materials are available for vacuum casting?
Vacuum casting commonly uses polyurethane resin in rigid, flexible, clear, colored and heat-resistant grades. Depending on the project, we can evaluate ABS-like, PP-like, PC-like, PMMA-like, TPE-like, TPR-like and rubber-like options.
Are ABS-like and PP-like casting materials the same as injection-molded plastics?
Not exactly. These polyurethane casting materials are selected to simulate certain appearance or performance characteristics. If testing requires genuine ABS, PP, PC, POM, PEEK or another production-grade material, CNC machining may be a better option.
Can you machine both plastic and metal prototype parts?
